A terrible weekly start

This has been the worst week I’ve had since I started with Terri (of course, that’s only been 3 weeks.)

I had an early morning appointment on Monday, and although I considered doing my Monday workout on Sunday, I didn’t. Then Monday.. well, I just couldn’t get the motivation after work to do it. So, I figured I’d move my 4 day workout from Mon-Thur to Tue-Fri.

This morning I woke up to do my Monday workout.. I really didn’t want to get up. I must have spent 30 minutes arguing with myself. Eventually I won :-))) the Health-me won. I got up, scrambled a couple of eggs and started the workout.

Then… that darn Treadclimber! Sometimes it squeaks. I’m not sure what causes this, but one of my doggies is very sensitive to this sound. He has little mini seizures. It was a little worse this morning, but I tried to ignore him, thinking he’d go in the other side of the house and not hear it. Well, he disappeared and I continued to workout. Then, as I was about 50 minutes into the workout I decided I’d better check on him. I found him curled up in my bathroom walkin-closet. This by itself wasn’t too unusual, but my doggie #2, was sitting prim and proper at the doorway watching doggie #1. Now _that_ is unusual! Sooo.. I had to take some time and talk to the boys to figure out what was going on. Ten minutes later, I was able to coax doggie #1 into the back yard, but he insisted I stay near.

Anyway, I finished everything except the abs/crunches. I really hate that. I actually like the Abs best of all. I need call bowflex and ask them what causes the squeaking and what I can do to stop it.

Yesterdays meal’s were terrible. I skipped breakfast completely, ate some brownies, ate King Ranch casserole and 2 rolls for lunch, and leftover King Ranch for dinner.

I guess I need to go back to no sweets again. I’m just not ready to eat them responsibly yet.

boredom

I’m bored. It’s a lazy Saturday afternoon and I find myself thinking of cakes and cookies and chocolate. I already broke the rules and ate an apple an hour ago. I’m not sure if I’m hungry or just bored.

I ate a good lunch, so I really shouldn’t be hungry. But I still find myself trying to figure out what I’m going to eat tonight. <sigh>

Guess I really should walk the dogs and wash some clothes… but.. gee, I can’t really think of a legitimate excuse not to. Hmmm.. ok, I’ll go walk the dogs. Perhaps I’ll feel more energetic after a little fresh air. I’ll check back in later and give you my daily food report.

Two weeks down.

I just finished my second week of workouts. I’m still doing good.. still dedicated, still motivated. I’ve stuck to the diet, which hasn’t been too difficult.

The only really tough time I had with the diet was when I stopped at the grocery store after work one day. It was extremely difficult to not buy cookies or candy or ice cream. I’m not sure if it was the forbidden food that was calling me or if I just like buying the stuff. I say that, because I have cookies and candy at home now (I bought them pre-Terri). Anyway, I resisted and went home with “real” food.I’ve been trying to log my daily workout and meals, but I’m getting lots of errors and it’s beginning to look like there may be problems on the database server. I’ll probably wait till tomorrow to enter the information.

I kinda cheated… I think.

I think I cheated on my diet.. I ate cereal this morning in stead of eggs. BUT.. it was Special K with 7g Protein. I also had a Thomas Mini Bagel with 5g. So I still had a decent protein intake. I still haven’t eaten anything between meals. I kinda wanted to this afternoon… but I drank a bottle of water instead and got over it.

My workout this morning was longer than I expected. I bought a balance ball yesterday and used it this morning. Let me tell you.. that thing has got to be dangerous! The most difficult “ball” exercise were oblique crunches. After the first 5 reps, the outside of my lower back developed a hard pinching pain. I have no idea if it was a good or bad pain. But I had to do an extra little stretch after every 3 reps. I decided I’d better verify it’s a good pain before I do any more. There is nothing more frustrating than injuring yourself just as you are motivated and ready to make changes.

Craving vs. Hunger

Last night as I was posting my blog, there was a bag of Reeses Peanut Butter Cups in my kitchen making all sorts of noise. This seems a little contradictory to the statement I made about only eating when I’m hungry. I mean, if I really only eat when I’m hungry, I wouldn’t be reaching for that bag.. Right? As I began to “unfoil” one of the cups, my husband made comments about the money I had just wasted on a training program that I was ignoring. I justified his comments, telling him I had not yet received the diet information. To which he replied, “You made the commitment when you paid the money.”

Grrrrrr. He was right and I knew it! I headed for the trash to toss the half unwrapped cup.

“Wait!” he cried, “bring that to me, I didn’t make any commitments.”

After my husband confiscated my Reeses Cup, I went to the fridge for a bottle of water. As I opened the door, before my very eyes was a basket of strawberries and a tub of cool whip. YUM! I ate about 3 strawberries dipped in the cool whip. Suddenly, I noticed that bag of Reeses had gotten quiet. It was no longer appealing to me. Guess I was right all along, I only eat when I’m hungry. It’s just that there is usually a candy bar or cookies in sight and I grab the first thing that looks good.

Lessons learned: I need to recognize my hunger and take the time to look around for something other than sweets.
